Important: The Renters Rights Act 2025 came into force on 1 May 2026 for England. Section 21 is permanently abolished. All new tenancies must use Assured Periodic Tenancy Agreements, not Assured Shorthold Tenancies. If your documents have not been updated, they may be legally ineffective.
Local landlord information — Yorkshire
- Leeds City Council operates selective licensing in several inner-city areas. Check current schemes before starting a new tenancy.
- Sheffield has a large student population from its two universities — one of the largest student rental markets in England.
- Bradford has a diverse tenant population and several designated licensing areas.
- Hull City Council has operated extensive selective licensing and the city has high proportions of privately rented property.
- York is a tourism city with high demand for both short and long-term lets, and some of the highest rents outside the major cities.
